The UK Vision for Coaching
By 2012 the practice of coaching in the UK will be elevated to a profession acknowledged as central to the development of sport and the fulfilment of individual potential.
UK Vision for Coaching 2012
Coaching will have:
professional and ethical values and inclusive and equitable practice
agreed national standards of competence as a benchmark at all levels
a regulated and licensed structure
recognition, value and appropriate funding and reward
a culture and structure of innovation, constant renewal and continual professional development
sports coach UK 2003 - 2006
sports coach UK is dedicated to guiding the development and implementation of a coaching system, recognised as a world leader; for all coaches at every level in the UK

NCC objectives
To establish a 5 level UK wide NCC by 2004 and to implement it in full in 20 sports and have introduced the concept to further 10 sports by 2006
To ensure that those 20 sports have the time, support and resources to achieve the full NCC which will create a flexible delivery system for coaches that pays due regard to the diverse needs of different groups at all levels
NCC - sub targets
The establishment of a five level NCC linked to national standards by July 2004
An increase from 0 to 20 sports achieving the standard of NCC at all levels by December 2006
An increase from 0 to 5 sports providing access to an NCC qualification during 2006
In summary the NCC will :
Advance coach education programmes and practices
Support the development of coaching as a profession
Require a commitment to review and develop existing programmes and practices
Contribute to the step change required to achieve ‘The UK Vision for Coaching’
