ARE DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THE SECUREMENT OF FUNDING FOR THE NEW £1.3 MILLION

CITY OF LISBURN NATIONAL GYMNASTICS CENTRE

IRELAND’S FIRST PURPOSE BUILT GYMNASTICS FACILITY

Salto Gymnastic Centre are delighted to announce that the Sports Council Lottery Fund have awarded us £470 000 towards the building of our new National Gymnastics Centre. Sports Council Vice Chairman Gerry Carson has made the following statement on behalf of SCNI regarding the award…

“The Sports Council for Northern Ireland are delighted to be working in partnership with Salto Gymnastic Centre and Lisburn City Council in ensuring the future and development of gymnastics at all levels in Northern Ireland”

Lisburn City Council are providing a superb site for the new facility – right beside the Lagan Valley Leisure-Plex. The support of the Lisburn City Council and their Sports Development Unit has been essential in the planning and developing of the new facility. Chairman of the Leisure Services Committee Alderman Ivan Davis OBE has made the following statement on behalf of Lisburn City Council…

“I have no doubt the new facility will realize the vision of Tony Byrne, Marie Murphy and the Salto team who have left no stone unturned in an effort to realize a facility which is truly worthy of the title ‘centre of excellence’”

Tony Byrne, the Director of Coaching at Salto summed up the journey towards this new centre as follows…

“Twenty two years ago we thought our current facility was too big! It has served its purpose and we now move on. It has been a long journey to get this far, but a first class facility alone does not make a champion – a system does.

We now have all the pieces of this system eventually coming together – world class coaches, time, an excellent facility and of course the talented individuals. We have given fun and enjoyment to many children and produced many great gymnasts – the future is bright and I extend our thanks to Sports Council Northern Ireland and Lisburn City Council.

The City of Lisburn National Gymnastics Centre will be born in January 2006”.
