SPORTS COUNCIL FOR NORTHERN IRELAND SADDENED BY THE DEATH OF GEORGE BEST

 The Chairman of the SCNI Professor Eric Saunders today added his condolences to the messages of sympathy and regret on the death of football legend George Best.   Professor Saunders said “George Best was undoubtedly the best footballer in the world and as a footballer he was one of Northern Ireland’s greatest ambassadors.  He was one of a kind, a genius and someone who will never be replaced.

He graced the football pitch at a time when football was a much more physical game and players challenged hard.  Gifted players were not afforded the same protection and this elevates more his skills, balance and agility.

 Northern Ireland has lost one of its most talented sportsmen and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
