In some instances Sport NI will work with
umbrella organisations which represent the interests of two or more Governing
Bodies in addition to, or instead of, working with the individual organizations.
It is recognised such collaborative work between
Governing Bodies provides economies of scale, co-ordination, the showing of good
practice and the pooling of resources across Governing Bodies.
Organisations which the Council is currently
working with, or will work with, in this regard include:
On occasion Sport NI will invest in these bodies
directly where applicants clearly demonstrate the Governing Body support.
Recognition of
Governing Bodies
Sport NI implements a policy on the
recognition of sporting activities and governing bodies of sport jointly with
the Sports Councils in England, Wales and Scotland.
This policy is currently under review.
The Sports Councils will not consider any new applications for recognition of
sporting activities or governing bodies until the review process is completed,
which is due to be completed by May 2009.
